Art & Craft fair and exhibition
On Saturday 30th November, local artists and craft people came together to display and / or sell their items. We also had the pleasure of having The Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor Gul Nawaz present during the event.
Celebration of St. Nicholas
On Friday 5th December, we have organised celebration of St. Nicholas Day (Mikuláš). This tradition is widely celebrated by people in the Czech Republic and Slovakia and is very popular. St. Nicholas, Angel and Evil visit children and give out small presents.
Multicultural Christmas Celebration
On Saturday 7th December 2019 we celebrate Christmas festive season by coming together for traditional gift stalls with local and exotic items.
COMPAS Orion featured on BBC Look East
COMPAS had been approached by BBC Look East to talk about perceptions of migrant communities of the current political climate and the effect of Brexit on people.
Roma dance group CERCHENA in Cardiff
The group CERCHENA (stars) was formed in September 2019 and the girls have already performed at number of local events and recently also in Cardiff and London at a community event. The group has recently grew in size, from 5 girls to 12.
REGULAR ACTIVITIES
Advice centre
The free advisory service includes help with the application for Settled status, translation, debt advice, form filling and other. The service is completely free and is open to anyone, every Monday and Tuesday from 10am to 2pm. We also work very closely with Solutions 4 Health and offer bi-weekly drop in sessions for health checks.
Food bank
Every Saturday morning, we give out food and toiletry to the most needy. The food is donated to COMPAS by Lidl in Stanground.
ORION School
The school currently offers language classes to children from the age of 6 to 14.
ORION Cafe
The community café is open every day (apart of Wednesday) from 10am to 5pm and offers delicious range of refreshments.
Welcome project
This project comes in two parts – cooking sessions and debate club. In the past weeks we have tasted Argentinian traditional Mata (kind of a tea) and delicious sweets, discussed the current ESOL provisions and the current political topics.
ANNOUNCEMENT
Creative Refuge
Starting from Thursday 9th January 2020, this new project will offer art / creativity as a way to cope with Mental Health – this would be in the form of a variety of activities which would be steered by the group and led by Morgan Fitzsimons.
Arts with a purpose
Starting from Monday 6th January 2020, this new project led by Morgan Fitzsimons will create an opportunity for people that want to have a go at creating art and exploring new ways of expressing themselves.
Theme-specific workshops for public authorities
Starting in February 2020, we will be offering tailored workshops and training sessions to organisations and public services. More details and list of topics will be provided in January.
New furniture from John Lewis
We would like to express our gratitude to John Lewis store in Peterborough, for the very kind donation of unused furniture.
